Custom blackened steel pedestrian gate in a steel fence on board-formed concrete walls at Autohaus, Austin

Autohaus

Autohaus, the Austin residence designed by Matt Fajkus Architecture for a pair of vintage car collectors, sits behind a front garden and entry by ADLA Studio. We designed the street edge as a continuation of the house’s steel and concrete language: a custom steel fence, pedestrian gate and driveway gate set on board-formed concrete walls, with a concrete and gravel walk passing beneath a mature shade tree to the front door. Terraced steel planters step the garden up toward the house. Along the fence, sculptural whale’s tongue agaves and Mexican bush sage grow in gravel, with Japanese yews screening the inside of the fence. The garden keeps to the same clean lines as the house while adding texture and color to the street.
